Hi Orchestra!
Please sit in your sections for Rosin Eating Zombies today. (Violin I on the floor level, VII on the top two.
Remember that your String Festival Order forms are due Friday. I'm picking your (XXL) shirt size if I don't have your order by then. Drop them in my dropbox.
Sorry to miss you today, I'm home and on the way to recovered from pneumonia. Total bummer to spend what should have been a ski weekend on the couch. Today you have two tasks. 1-start to understand Syncopation and find it in Violet's Tango and 2- get more familiar with Rosin Eating Zombies.
Syncopation
I searched for a fun, colorful, high-tech and thorough explanation of Syncopation... and found none. I just found this video. It is super clear, easy to understand (actually intended for an elementary school class) and veeeery out of style. Giggle once over the style then be mature and learn the information; she explains it very clearly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N22jC3HTsM Pause this video on the screen at 5:25 so that you can reference the whiteboard she is using.
Now, look your page of Violet's Tango. Listen to this performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnVkCpB2wRg Find four examples of syncopation, put a box around the measure and write in your 1+2+ counts VERY neatly. You may work with someone sitting next to you, you may not move seats. You have 10 minutes to do this. If you finish four, go on and find extras; identifying these will help you play better when we see each other next.
Rosin Eating Zombies.
With your part open in front of you, listen to this performance and read along. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbvt0vRZjuw
Now, close up your parts and take a look at this cheesy fake horror film with this piece as the soundtrack. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNKqdmWuAi4
If you're done with this you can finish up work IN YOUR SEAT, study your music over IN YOUR SEAT or do anything else as long as it is... you guessed it: IN YOUR SEAT. (Be nice to your sub!)
